“The certification of persons is the act whereby an accredited independent third party declares that a person, assessed according to clear and transparent rules, has acquired the competences, established with the participation of the ” stakeholders” of the market, to operate professionally in a given field of activity“. (ISO/IEC 17024)
The certification awarded by the Italian National Blood Centre (CNS) applies to Italian Transfusion System Inspectors (VSTIs) who voluntarily apply for it and is therefore not applicable to the organisations to which VSTIs belong nor their designating bodies (Regions, Autonomous Provinces, Military Healthcare Services, CNS).
All VSTIs who have completed the qualification course envisaged under current legislation and who meet the professional experience requirements defined in the Certification Scheme of Inspectors for the Italian Transfusion System have access to the certification programme.
Although the Certification Scheme is intended to be used at national level, the CNS may issue the certification to VSTIs not resident in Italy who request it (e.g. applicants residing in the Republic of San Marino).
Certification is valid for four years, starting from the date of the first certificate issued and subsequently from the last renewal date.
The procedures for submitting an application for certification are set out in the Regulations for the Certification of Inspectors for the Italian Transfusion System, which in general regulate the relations between the CNS Certification Body and VSTIs.
