In recent days, Dr. Pietro Bonomo, immunohaematologist and transfusionist who during his life also held the role of president of SIMTI (Italian Society for Transfusion Medicine and Immunohaematology) from 2005 to 2006, passed away.
Sicilian, originally from Modica, Dr. Bonomo had been a medical director first at the Maria Paternò Arezzo Hospital in Ragusa and then at the Azienda Sanitaria Provincialeof Ragusa. Also involved in blood volunteering, Dr. Bonomo had been president of the Provincial AVIS of Ragusa.
The Italian National Blood Center can only join in everyone’s condolences for the passing of a figure who always put his commitment and expertise at the service of an important objective such as the improvement of the Italian Transfusion System.
